Peggy Northrop

Peggy Northrop is editor-in-chief of Sunset, the leading lifestyle brand in the West with 4.6 million readers. Under her direction in 2014, Sunset won the prestigious National Magazine Award for General Excellence from the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME)—the first such award in the magazine’s history. Sunset is published by Time, Inc. Prior to joining Sunset in 2013, Ms. Northrop lived in New York City, where she was editor-in-chief of Reader’s Digest, More, and Organic Style. Prior to that, she held senior positions at Real Simple, Redbook, Glamour, Vogue, and Health. Ms. Northrop has won numerous awards for her work, including the 2009 ASME General Excellence awarD for Reader’s Digest (2009) and the ASME for Personal Service at Glamour (2007). She has made frequent appearances on television and radio and was executive producer of the Gracie-award- winning public radio show,“MoreTime.” Despite her many years in New York, Northrop’s heart has always been in the West. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and early in her career worked at The San Francisco Examiner and edited The Berkeley Monthly. She currently lives in San Francisco with her husband, a California native who’s very happy to be home, and a West Highland terrier named Riley who finds the fog evocative of his Scottish roots.
