Tom and Debby Harris

Owners, Harris Stage Lines

From working with cowboy greats like Cotton Rosser at the Flying U Rodeo Company to managing major equestrian operations in Carmel Valley and the island of Kawaii, if it has to do with horses Tom and Debby Harris have done it all. Their lifetime of experience with multiple breeds & disciplines makes them truly unique. Tom got his beginning in the horse business riding colts for Stock Horse Trainers which led him to a job at the Double J Ranch, home of the famous cutting horse sire Doc Bar. There he assisted in all phases of the training & breeding program. Driving horses has always been Toms deepest passion, he expanded his horsemanship skills in the driving world from the show ring, to farming with horses & mules. Debby’s earlier years were spent in the Mountains of Idaho, riding alongside her father out on the trails atop pack horses & mules. They raised & trained most of their own horses. College & Rodeo was her next step where she met Tommy. Horses brought these two together & the rest is history.

The two of them worked together for Flying U Rodeo Company, handling all of the livestock both at the ranch & at the PRCA Rodeos. Aside from handling the herd at Flying U, Tom and Debby preformed in Wild West shows; preserving western heritage and the history of the Cowboy.

After the rodeo life, the Harris’ started a carriage business in Pebble Beach on the Monterey Peninsula and were the equestrian directors at the luxurious Stone Pine Estate in Carmel Valley. While there, they designed a massive carriage operation for the Westin Kauai Lagoons Resort in Hawaii. This involved purchasing over a 100 head of Clydesdales, Belgians, & Percherons, flying them to Kauai, fitting them to harness & carriage, & training the drivers.

The Harris’ have participated in a wide variety of films, television shows, commercials & print ads, providing horses, equipment & their expertise. The list includes racing their Ben Hur Chariots across the desert filming Caesars Palace commercials, riding along side Russian Djigit horseman filming the documentary “Glasnost on Horseback”, providing horses for Ralph Lauren photo shoot and much more.

They have worked and trained with some of the best horseman to grace the Western United States: Denzel Cameron, Monty Montana, Glen Randall, and Cotton Rosser just to name a few. They have been featured in parades and shows across the United States from the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California to the Memorial Day Parade in New York City.

Finally Tom and Debby created Harris Stage Lines “Your Horse Riding, Driving, Party & Event Headquarters”, where they share their experiences & knowledge of horsemanship with young & old alike. Their son Cactus Sam Harris is a big part of the business, he is an accomplished musician & has added his 1000 pipe Wurlitzer of the West theater organ to the experience, presenting concerts, accompanied silent films and more.
